COLLECTED OBJECTS examines themed collections. Often, artists’ personal collections are a major source of
inspiration–as seen in the work of David Humphrey and Joyce Pensato for example. For a few artists, like Jim Shaw,
their collections are their artwork. With these collections, I often encounter a blurry line between what is part
of an artist’s work and what is not. While a central tenet of my project is to avoid photographing the artwork itself,
I have had to detect that boundary on a case-by-case basis.
